Arrogate Working Towards Pegasus World Cup

Arrogate, the rising four-year-old hailed as American racing’s next superstar, could be in action again on January 1 at Santa Anita.
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert outlined his intentions for the colt and when and where he will begin his 4YO campaign after the fleet-footed grey threw down a five furlong bullet in 58.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday.
It was the fastest of 77 gallops on they day and moved Baffert to suggest a start on January 1 could be on the cards for the son of Unbridled's Song in the G2 San Pasqual Stakes.
"After that work, that January 1 race might be an option here at Santa Anita," Baffert said.
"With what he did today I don't know if I can sit on him that long. After today he's pretty ready."
The race will serve as his prep for the inaugural $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park in Florida on January 28 that will feature the final career start for 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome.
Arrogate defeated California Chrome in the G1 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November after announcing his brilliance to the racing world with a record win in the G1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga.
However owners Juddmonte Farm is yet to purchase another owner's spot in the starting gate for Arrogate the Pegasus World Cup.
The race has a unique buy-in structure where 12 owners each paid $1 million to reserve a spot which funds the race's large purse.
Baffert said the colt worked alone on Tuesday with Martin Garcia aboard but easily caught up with another group of horses in front of him.
"He's been a handful, so we just let him go and there were some horses who broke off in front of him," he said.
"He was galloping right along and he ended up catching up to them. I didn't think he was going that fast.
"He was pretty impressive. He looks like he's getting stronger."
"He just reminded me today how good he really He's so impressive.
“After retiring American Pharoah I never dreamt I would be dealing with another horse of his calibre but this horse is just getting stronger and better every day."
